Talks

Online Privacy and Tracking

This is a talk about online privacy, and how embedded tracking is collecting personal data for commercial uses. It covers the reach and prevalence of these trackers, some concrete reasons this is dangerous for users beyond ‘creepy’ and offers recommendations for how you can protect your own data, and then protect your users.

Writing Better Validations in Rails and Ruby

Description

This month we have two speakers, firstly Laura speaking about online privacy and tracking:

This is a talk about online privacy, and how embedded tracking is collecting personal data for commercial uses. It covers the reach and prevalence of these trackers, some concrete reasons this is dangerous for users beyond ‘creepy’ and offers recommendations for how you can protect your own data, and then protect your users.

Afterwards, Stefan will do a talk about how to write better validations in Rails and in Ruby in general.

Please get in touch if you’d like to present something, we’ve had a wide variety of topics and presenters in the past, so don’t feel shy!

Doors open at 5:30pm with talks starting at 6:00pm. We’ll break for pizza and chatting/networking after the 1st talk.

Please join us in the Ruby NZ Slack

Lots of us are hanging out there, you can get an invite from the official Ruby NZ (http://ruby.nz/) site here (http://slack.ruby.nz/). Don’t forgot to join the #wellington channel too as that’s were any discussion and announcement about this meetup occurs.

Sponsorship
